International Trade and Interdependence in global production

The next meeting of the ITSG - Italian Trade Study Group will be organized by the DISEI (Department of Economics and Management) of the University of Florence and by the Manlio Masi Foundation on 1-2- December, 2022.

Topics of special interest include:

  • Trade, factor (and firm) mobility after COVID
  • Evolution and reconfiguration of Global Value Chains
  • Disruption in trade (sanctions) and international production networks
  • Trade and labour market outcomes
  • Artificial intelligence, new technologies
  • Environmental innovation and knowledge spillovers through trade
  • Migration and democracy

Complete papers (or advanced drafts) should be submitted to the Secretariat Fondazione Masi - - by the 16th of October, 2022.

The acceptance of the papers will be notified no later than November 4th, 2022.

Special Issue: papers presented at the workshop, with a particular focus on Italian and European Economic Systems could be submitted for a special issue"The future of global value chains and International Trade: An EU perspective" hosted by the ‘Italian Economic Journal’ (
The keynote lectures of the Workshop will be delivered by Beata Javorcik (EBRD and Oxford University), Bernard Hoekman (EUI) and Seda Ozer (Baskent University).

We hope that the meeting will take place physically at the University of Florence. However, due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation and possible travel restrictions, the meeting may become a hybrid or a completely virtual meeting.
